For more than 50 years, I have been transforming with minimal interventions what is already existing into something new to be perceived. Spaces inside and outside are appearing in another atmosphere, also giving my artwork a new meaning for the time existing. My intention is to create an environment leading visitors to reflect or ask themselves about their expectations what art is, and how it should appear.
「私は50 年以上にわたり、ミニマルな介入をおこなうことによって 既存のものをあらたに知覚されるものへと変換させてきました。 内外の空間はまた異なる気配となって現れ、私の作品はそこに存在する新たな意味をもちます。art とは何か、art はどのようにあるべきかー 鑑賞者の自問や思索を促す環境をつくりだすことを意識しています。」

1985年よりバーゼルを拠点に活動している
1987〜1990年 スクール・オブ・ビジュアル・アーツ
1990年以降、ヨーロッパ、日本、オーストラリア、メキシコ、アメリカの美術館、施設、ギャラリーでプロジェクトや展覧会を行う。作品は世界中の公共および個人コレクションに収蔵されている。
1998年、Gerda Maiseと共にHebel_121 Baselを共同創設、同じくキュレーターとしても活動。
For more than 30 years, I have examined the interaction between material, space, and visual appearance. I conceive and develop space installations according to the information that the given spatial situation is offering. My interest is the equal dialogue between the already existing and my specific intervention, that makes both space and intervention visible and perceptible as a new temporary entity in time.
「私は、物質、空間、そして視覚的に認識されるものの相互関係を30 年以上にわたり探求してきました。 空間の状況から得られる情報をもとにインスタレーションを構想し展開しています。 既存のものと私が介入するアプローチとの間で対等な対話を築くことにより、相互があらたに一時的な実体として可視化、知覚されることに関心を持っています。」

このたびkenakian は、Gerda Maise（ゲルダ マイゼ）とDaniel Göttin（ダニエル ゲティン）をお迎えし、展覧会「Lines and Grids」を開催いたします。二人はいずれも空間やスペースに関連した創作活動を長年にわたって展開し、バーゼル（スイス）にてアートスペースを運営しているアーティストです。本展覧会では、約１週間の現地制作を通して、二人がkenakianの別々のスペースに同アイデア／それぞれ独自の方法のもとLines and Grids を設置します。主にリボン、糸、毛糸などの繊維素材で作品を制作するGerda Maise。紙、段ボール、粘着テープなど、一般的な工業資材をインスタレーション作品に使用するDaniel Göttin。二人のLines and Grids によって、既存のスペースに一時的なあらたな空間がうみだされるでしょう。
今日のグローバルな世界において、art の意味やʼ 言語ʼ を鑑賞者が見出し自身に問うことは一つの挑戦である ⏤ Gerda Maise & Daniel Göttin

kenakian is pleased to welcome artists Gerda Maise and Daniel Göttin from Switzerland to present the exhibition “Lines and Grids”.
Gerda Maise and Daniel Göttin are both artists, working in space, and with space related art. With Lines and Grids they are transforming space into something to be seen as a dialogue with the already existing space, and the new intervention, as a unity for the time being. At kenakian they are installing Lines and Grids in two separate spaces in a different way, but with the same idea, each in his and her specific way. Gerda Maise is creating her art work with textile materials such as ribbons, threads and yarn. Daniel Göttin is using common industrial materials as there are paper, cardboard, adhesive tape, and others for his installations.
In our life when a lot of information is available both passively and actively, this exhibition will provide a time to experience art through your own skin and experiences. We look forward to welcoming you.
It’s a challenge for the visitors to find out, and to ask themselves about the meaning or the ‘language’ of art in our global world today… by Gerda Maise & Daniel Göttin
